The Chinese paper balloon is a tradition that has been carried out since 1940 in Tuzamapan. A group of anthropologists from the National Indigenous Institute made an audiovisual ethnographic archive entitled When the Fog Rises. The anthropologists, amazed by the balloons, promoted the holding of a contest among the population. Since that first contest, this event has been held year after year and is now a tradition.
