Located 16 kilometers north of the municipality of Calvillo, during the 17th century it belonged to the nuns of the Convent of Santa María de Gracia, in Guadalajara, and was later acquired by the wealthy miner from Zacatecas, Matías López de Carrasquilla. In 1702 it was purchased by General Pedro de la Puebla Rubín de Celis, a peninsular Spaniard and member of a distinguished family of noble origin.
