In Emiliano Zapata, the carnival takes place on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, before Ash Wednesday. It is organized by the elder. On three days, they meet in the morning, between 8 and 10 am, at the elder's house, where they begin to dance. The dancers leave the house to dance where they are invited. Once the dance is over, they are offered refreshments, candy or food, but never money. On Monday and Tuesday, they finish dancing at night, between 9 and 10 pm. “La Pandilla” or group of huehues, is made up of 12, 30 or 40 dancers. They are all men and sometimes they dress as women to present “El Ahorcado”. The celebration is in honor of the Holy Christ the King, it takes place every third Sunday of November with religious acts, fireworks, mechanical games, the queen is paraded through the streets of the town, bullfights and a greased pole.
