Narrow Gauge Steam Engine No. 279 was built by the Badlwing Locomotive Works of Philadelphia for the Mexican National Railways and put into service in 1904. The line was originally called the Morelos Railway and was later incorporated into the Mexico-Veracruz Interoceanic Railway.
