The archaeological zone is located in the town of Chalcatzingo, its Aztec name means "The small (or precious) place of the Chalcas", it has several constructions and archaeological reliefs, the oldest dating back to more than 600 years BC.

Municipality

Jonacatepec is a municipality located in the state of Morelos, in Mexico, its name comes from the Nahuatl meaning "On the hill of onions", it has beautiful historical places such as the patronal Church of San Mateo, next to the chapel of Father Jesus, from the 16th century, the archaeological zone of Chalcatzingo, the Augustinian Convent from the 16th century, the House of the hero of the Reform Leandro Valle, the Hacienda de Santa Clara, as well as places of tourist recreation such as the "Las Pilas" Spa with a swimming pool, wading pool, green areas and the "Tlanextli" recreational center, the civic festivals of May 5 and the Onion Fair are the most important festivities in the region.

Festivities

The popular festivals are May 5, a civic festival with floats, bullfights and theatre; November 1 and 2, the commemoration of All Saints and All Souls' Day; December 12, a festival in honour of the Virgin of Guadalupe with a fair and dance of vaqueritos; and the Onion Fair in December.
