The most important cultural venue for many decades in Baja California Sur. In 1683, the Spanish conquistadors arrived at the bay and named it Puerto de Nuestra Señora de la Paz. This name was reaffirmed in 1720 when the Jesuit priests Juan de Ugarte and Jaime Bravo founded the Mission of La Paz. The name La Paz is derived from all of this.
Civic commemorations of a national and regional nature are celebrated; in addition, on May 13, fairs and other activities are held to commemorate the founding of the city of La Paz, and on January 24, the Day of Our Lady of La Paz, the patron saint of the place, is celebrated.
