The Music Museum is located in a 19th-century building, better known as La Vieja Casona, which is part of the historical heritage of Baja California Sur. The musical instruments, sheet music, furniture and decorative objects in the museum date back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The vast majority were donated by citizens.
La Paz is one of the 5 municipalities of the state of Baja California Sur. In 1596, Admiral Sebastián Vizcaíno named the city that is today the capital of the state of Baja California Sur as La Paz. In 1683, the Spanish conquistadors arrived at the bay and named it Puerto de Nuestra Señora de la Paz. This name was reaffirmed in 1720 when the Jesuit priests Juan de Ugarte and Jaime Bravo founded the Mission of La Paz. The name La Paz is derived from all of this.
Civic commemorations of a national and regional nature are celebrated; in addition, on May 13, fairs and other activities are held to commemorate the founding of the city of La Paz, and on January 24, the Day of Our Lady of La Paz, the patron saint of the place, is celebrated. Regarding traditional dances, in San Antonio, the Suegra and the Cuera are danced, as well as the children's round, the Viudita.
