The Floreros are one of the traditions that can be experienced every year. Approximately 500 young people participate in them, and the number of participants increases every year. On December 15th at dawn the pilgrimage to the San Cristóbal hill begins, where the next day they cut the flowers that they will bring to make the little house where Baby Jesus will be born. The floreros have to withstand the sub-zero temperatures of the Altos communities during this season, in addition to finding and cutting the Niluyarilo flowers, which grow on the trees in this region.

Municipality

Acala is one of the 123 municipalities of the Mexican state of Chiapas. Its name is pre-Hispanic and means "Place of Canoes." It is located in the center of the state. Its main tourist attractions are its squares and traditional festivals, the municipal parish and the Grijalva River that runs through it.

Festivities

Acala has various festivals and celebrations to the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12th, from January 23rd to February 5th the Feast of Candelaria is celebrated; from May 13th to 15th San Isidro; from May 1st to 3rd Santa Cruz and on June 29th San Pablo, as well as on December 25th Christmas and on January 1st to celebrate the New Year.
