The Arch of Carmen was built in 1677 in the purest Mudejar style during the Colonial period, and belonged to the Convent of the Incarnation. This building used to serve as the gateway to the Royal City, and has now been adopted as a symbol of its identity. This construction, unique in Mexico, is considered part of the Chiapas Mudejar sample, and is considered the most striking Colonial Building in the City and one of the most notable and unique Monuments of the New World.
