The Mammoth Caves in San Cristóbal de las Casas are approximately 20 km from the Arcotete park, a name given to the caves due to a formation that resembles this extinct mammal. We (Vero, an Italian traveler and myself) took the path on foot from Arcotete to get to this place. This walk is really recommended, because the landscapes between mountains are spectacular, and you suddenly find beautiful huts built in the middle of the area, where you can breathe peace and tranquility.
