Catazajá is a Mexican municipality located in the north of the Mexican state of Chiapas. Catazajá is a Mayan word that comes from Kaa: valley, tasal: lying and já: water, which means valley covered with water. Its main tourist attraction is the Catazajá lagoon with a great variety of aquatic species, the most important being manatees, otters, sea bass, carp, tenhuayacas, guabinas, shrimp, turtles and a unique species called pejelagarto.
