Until not long ago, in towns with water shortages, public laundries were built for the inhabitants to do their laundry; sites that now constitute picturesque testimonies of bygone times, the public laundries of Aculco were built in 1882, taking advantage of the Ojo de Agua spring, the main source of supply for the population. For more than 100 years there has been a legend in Aculco of some children who would have been found by a witch, taking them to a pirú tree located next to the laundries, whose trunk took the form of some children embracing.
Aculco is one of the municipalities of the Mexican state of State of Mexico, was formed by the Otomi and later conquered by the Mexicas in the 14th century, its current name comes from the Nahuatl language and means "place where the water twists", it retains the features of its traditional architecture full of alleys and houses with large patios. Among its attractions are the Municipal Spa, the House of Culture, the Hidalgo House, the La Concepción Waterfall, the Tixhiñu Waterfall, the Arroyo Zarco Hacienda, the Ñadó Hacienda, the Main Garden, the Public Laundries, the Ñadó Rock and Dam, the Parish and Former Convent of San Jerónimo, the Colorado Bridge, Santa Ana Matlavat, San Lucas Totolmaloya and the Sanctuary of the Lord of Nenthé.
In Aculco the most important celebrations are on February 19th the erection of the municipality is celebrated and a ceremony alluding to the day is held, September 17th is the "day of the Aculco brotherhood" in which the families of Aculco meet to spend a day in the countryside, the celebrations that have been carried out since 1702 in the Sanctuary of the Lord of Nenthé, the year in which the image was found buried at the foot of some oaks and next to a stream of water, on September 30th the tradition continues celebrating the patron saint San Jerónimo, who is celebrated with great joy and dances (santiagueros and concheros) and burning of the castle within the religious festivities; as well as a cultural, agricultural and livestock fair, games and family fun; the traditional bullfight is also held.
