Municipality

The municipality of Chapala is one of the 125 municipalities in which the Mexican state of Jalisco is divided, its capital is the city of Chapala, located next to the lake of the same name, from which it receives its name that means "place of vases or small pots" (Nahuatl); "very wet or soaked place" (coca), or the "place of grasshoppers on the water" (Nahuatl), the main tourist attraction is Ajijic a small town located on the shore of Lake Chapala excellent to enjoy a vacation in total relaxation and rest. Festivities

Among the most important festivities in Chapala are those in honor of the patron saint of Chapala, Saint Francis. The novena begins on September 26 and lasts until October 4. The Carnival stands out; in February, the most important popular festival begins with the traditional "burial of bad humor", the parade of floats, troupes and costumes, followed by the "serenades" in the Main Plaza in honor of the Queen of Festivities and the coronation of the Ugly King. Also on September 30, the festival of the Virgin of the Rosary begins, which is transported from its chapel in front of the Ajijic plaza to the Sanctuary of Guadalupe in the neighborhood of the Six Corners.
