This church is located on top of a naturally formed cliff just in front of the Acolhua hill. It is believed that at that point there was either a pre-Hispanic place of worship or a minaret (a pre-Hispanic military lookout point), since from this point you have a visual dominance of a part of the valley and on this point this church was built in the 16th century. It was originally very simple with a tiled roof and in the 18th century it was changed to a semicircular dome.
