The municipality belongs to the Atoyac basin; to the south, it is crossed from east to west by two rivers, the Acatlán and the Mixteco, coming from the Acatlán valley and the Lower Mixteca.

Piaxtla is a municipality in the state of Puebla, the name of Piaxtla comes from the Nahuatl radicals: "piaztic", long thing, and "tlalli", land, which means “long, extensive land”, it has beautiful architectural sites such as the Parish Temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dating from the 16th century, which maintains the style of the time, remaining open all year round, with the aim of receiving the faithful who come to it, the popular festivals of the 15th of August commemorates the Assumption of Mary, “Tecuanis” and “Vaqueros” dances are presented.

Festivities

On August 15th, the Assumption of Mary is commemorated, and “Tecuanis” and “Vaqueros” dances are performed. Offerings are made on November 1st and 2nd.
