Zongozotla is one of the 217 municipalities in which the Mexican state of Puebla is divided. Its name is interpreted as "Next to the summit of Cozol (hill)" or "Summit where there are many turpentine or ocote trees", it has iconic historical buildings such as the parish church, from the 16th century, dedicated to the Most Holy Virgin of the Conception, the municipal palace, what distinguishes it is its large number of arches in front, which dates back to the 16th century, from which the patronal festival in honor of the Most Immaculate Virgin of the Conception begins on December 8, for ecotourism it has the Zempoala River and the Alpopoca waterfall which is located to the west of the municipality at a distance of 7 kilometers.
December 8th is the patronal feast day in honor of the Immaculate Virgin of the Conception. Holy Week is celebrated with traditional devotion; on November 1st and 2nd all saints and faithful deceased are celebrated with offerings and visits to cemeteries.
