The Pirate Route is a canal that connects the Hondo River with the Bacalar Lagoon, which, as its name suggests, was used by pirates of the time and where battles took place. Today, you can travel along it on a pontoon boat. The route shows you the most legendary sites in the area and those where they carried out their battles.

Municipality

The Municipality of Bacalar is one of the 10 municipalities that make up the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It was created by decree of the Congress of Quintana Roo on February 2, 2011, segregating its territory from the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. Its capital is the city of Bacalar.

Festivities

In February, the town celebrates its carnival with a dance party and all kinds of regional costumes and music. Its Patronal Festival in honor of San Joaquín takes place in August with religious events, boat races and jet skis in the beautiful lagoon.
