Municipality

Cuapiaxtla is one of the 60 municipalities that make up the state of Tlaxcala, its name means in Nahuatl "Mountain Guard" or "Place of Mountains" or "Individuals who take care of the Mountains, has several historical buildings such as the Parish of San Lorenzo, the construction of this parish began in the 17th century and continued until the 19th century, the Municipal Palace, the Iturbide Portal according to information available in the National Catalog of Historical Monuments, this portal was built approximately at the end of the 19th century, the Chapel of the Lord of the Neighborhood, the Hacienda Asunción La Rascona, the Hacienda Cerón and the Ex-hacienda Santa María Zoapila.

Festivities

The festival in honor of the patron saint, San Lorenzo Mártir, is important for its inhabitants. The celebrations begin 9 days before the main date, which is August 10. Daily masses are held in the morning and rosaries in the afternoon. At dawn, at 5 a.m., the procession arrives at the parish church. Later, the traditional "mañanitas" are sung by all the parishioners in honor of the patron saint. At 10:30 a.m., in the atrium of the church, the making of sawdust and flower carpets begins. At 12 noon, the main or festive mass is celebrated, officiated by the bishop of Tlaxcala, during which baptisms, communions and confirmations are held, and, as a final part, the great fair dance is held at 8:00 p.m. On the other hand, at 10:00 pm in the main square the fireworks display begins.
