The festivities in honor of the patron saint San Nicolás de Bari in Panotla are divided into two stages. The first is celebrated on December 6, and the second is celebrated on the third Sunday of December, which is known as the big festival. The secular celebrations take place on December 28 in the so-called Big Festival of the town. If December 28 falls on a weekday, the festival is moved to the following Sunday. The festival of San Jorge Tezoquipan begins 9 days before April 23, the main day. If the date falls on a weekday, it is celebrated on the following Sunday. This festival is held in honor of the patron saint of the town, San Jorge Mártir, and begins at 4 in the morning. "Las Mañanitas" are sung in the temple in honor of San Jorge, accompanied by mariachi groups, rondallas, teponaxtle, chirimía, rocket salute, wind music and the ringing of bells.
