Municipality

Chila de las Flores is a municipality in the south of the state of Puebla, Mexico, its name means where snails abound, the important buildings in the region are the Parish Church dedicated to Lord Santiago, built in the 16th century, the Dominican Convent, which came to establish the foundations of this town, the Temple of Cypress and Golden Medallions and the hill of “La Tortuga” in which there are ruins where it is assumed that there is an entrance to the buried city that was inhabited by Gentiles, where You can see vestiges of construction and even mixed paint.

Festivities

The patronal festival is held on July 25th in honor of Señor Santiago; August 15th is the main fair in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption; on May 3rd the Santa Cruz is celebrated, these festivals are celebrated with: fireworks, mechanical and sports games, there is a horse race, sometimes there is cockfighting, popular dance, masses and pilgrimages, music bands, rodeos and torch races. The dates of the celebrations of the communities belonging to the municipality are: Francisco Ibarra Ramos on February 2nd, Cerro de la Cruz on May 3rd, La Purísima on January 8th, Santo Niño on January 6th and San Rafael on October 24th, as well as San José Chapultepec is celebrated on the third Friday of Lent; Santa Cruz El Molino is celebrated on the first Friday of Easter with the same traditional festivities.
