It is located approximately sixteen kilometers south of the town of San Javier, where the church of San Francisco Javier is located. It was founded by Fray Francisco Palóu in 1769 and abandoned in 1817. Like San Javier (La Presentación), it was built as a visit and was the only Franciscan construction that was built during the years that these missionaries were in Baja California Sur; it is currently completely abandoned.
It is one of the 5 municipalities located in the central part of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. Its original name is Concho, which in the indigenous language means Red Mangrove and was named Loreto by the Jesuit priest Juan María de Salvatierra in memory of the day that Our Lady of Loreto arrived at the place. It is the favorite destination for cultural and recreational tourism in our country and abroad with cultural and tourist activities and attractions, including beaches, museums and places of interest.
This municipality offers tourists an infinite number of festivities, which is why it receives the aforementioned name.
