Coronado Island (shown as Smith Island on some maps) is an island located in Los Angeles Bay about 14 kilometers NE of Loreto, the island has a small dormant volcano called Coronado Volcano, the island is approximately 5 kilometers long.
It is one of the 5 municipalities located in the central part of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. Its original name is Concho, which in the indigenous language means Red Mangrove and was named Loreto by the Jesuit priest Juan María de Salvatierra in memory of the day that Our Lady of Loreto arrived at the place.
