The Comitán de Domínguez Archaeological Museum was inaugurated in 1993 and shares the space with the library of a building built in 1944 to serve as a school. This museum disseminates the development of pre-Hispanic cultures in the Los Llanos region until the arrival of the Spanish, based on the following periods: Prehistoric, Preclassic, Classic, Postclassic and the Tenam Puente Room which was created to exhibit the materials found during the excavations of the archaeological zone.

Municipality

Comitán de Domínguez is a municipality located in the Mexican state of Chiapas, Comitlán which means place of potters, a word that was Hispanicized as Comitán, today it is a thriving municipality characterized by its variety of architectural styles ranging from neoclassical to neo-Gothic and art nouveau and even Mudejar. It has several tourist attractions for visitors such as the Historic Center of Comitán, the gardens and streets, the Uninajab Spa, the Church of Santo Domingo, the Archaeological Zone of Tenam Puente and more.

Festivities

In Comitán de Domínguez the most important celebrations are the Feast of San Sebastián on January 20, the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria on February 2, the Feast of San Caralampio from February 11 to 20, the Feast of Santo Domingo and the trade fair, and the Feast of the Virgin of the Rosary on October 7.
