The Alberto Ruz Lhuillier Palenque Site Museum was founded in 1957 and is currently housed in a purpose-built building, opened to the public in December 1994. Considered one of the most notable archaeological museums in the Mayan area, it houses around 234 objects from different areas of Palenque, which attest to the aesthetic expressions generated by the dynastic power of the ancient city, as well as being sources of information on religious beliefs, ritual practices and forms of political organization of Palenque society.
Palenque, in Spanish means a place surrounded by a wooden fence or stake, is one of the municipalities of the State of Chiapas in Mexico, the municipality borders other places and the municipality located in the northern area is Catazajá, to the east is La Libertad, the state of Tabasco and the Republic of Guatemala, it has emblematic places for tourism such as archaeological sites and its diverse cultural and eco-tourism options.
In Palenque the most important celebrations are the fair dedicated to Saint Dominic of Guzmán and Saint Francis of Assisi.
