Zinacantán textiles are elegant and colorful embroidery, full of life and pre-Hispanic tradition. One of the most iconic garments of this region is the pok’u’ul, a sarape worn by men. By tradition, it was white, but over time various shades and floral motifs have been added in honor of floriculture. For their part, women wear skirts and blouses with floral fabrics, as well as a moxbi or maxibal, similar to a shawl or poncho.
The municipality of Zinacantán is one of the municipalities that make up the state of Chiapas, it is well known for the manufacture of colorful fabrics, its name is of Tzotzil origin meaning Place of Bats, where the sacred spaces are marked by the hills that surround the small valley and the complex formed by the San Lorenzo church, of colonial origin but remodeled at the beginning of the 20th century and the chapels of Esquipulas and San Sebastián. The main tourist attractions are the Antzetik Tajteklum Museum, the archaeological remains belonging to the Mayan culture, located in the municipal seat and the San Lorenzo church.
In Zinacantán the most important celebrations are the Holy Cross, Day of the Dead and the Virgin of Guadalupe.
