The Santa Ana Tzacuala Dam in Acaxochitlán is an ideal place to take long walks and admire its semi-transparent waters. Municipality

The municipality of Acaxochitlán is one of the eighty-four municipalities that make up the state of Hidalgo, in Mexico, its name comes from the Nahuatl Acaxochitl which means place where Acaxochitl abounds, it is located in the region known as the Sierra de Hidalgo, the foundation of Acaxochitlán dates back to the pre-Hispanic period, originally, it was inhabited by indigenous Otomi groups and was later conquered by the Aztecs, Acaxochitlán is known for its natural wealth, including mountains, rivers and waterfalls, it is a popular destination for nature lovers and ecotourism. The celebration of traditional festivals and the preservation of indigenous culture are an important part of the local identity.

Festivities

Among its main celebrations are the carnival that has been held since 2014 with the parade of the comparsas, accompanied by allegorical floats, made up of huehues, chicoteros, men dressed as women and vice versa, cavemen, among others; who danced to the rhythm of the band, violin and guitar, in May the feast of Señor del Collateral is celebrated, it is considered the most miraculous religious image of the region, the Feast of the Assumption, the mushroom and apple fair.
