The building dates back to the 19th century. The main façade of the San José chapel is plastered white, the walls are made of stone with a thickness of 60 centimeters, the construction is on one level, the shape of the roof is flat and was made with beams and vaults. A larger temple with neoclassical characteristics is being built next door. It is located at Reforma s/n, corner with Adolfo López in the town of San José Aztatla.
Contla de Juan Cuamatzi is one of the 60 municipalities of the state of Tlaxcala, it is located in the center of the state, its name comes from two meanings, which are: "place of pots or place of vessels" and Juan Cuamatzi which is in honor of General Juan Cuamatzi López, the fair is celebrated on May 20 in honor of the patron saint of the town San Bernardino de Siena, it has beautiful historical places such as the Parish of San Bernardino de Siena dates back to the 13th century, the Temple of Santa María corresponds to the 18th century, the San Felipe Chapel dates back to the 19th century, the San José Chapel dates back to the 19th century and the Temple of San Miguel Arcángel, which was decorated from 1979 to 1981.
In honor of the patron saint, San Bernardino, the celebration begins on May 10 with masses in the mornings and rosaries in the afternoons. On May 19 at noon, the town's artisans set up shop in the main square to exhibit their textiles and fabrics for the duration of the fair. In the center there are mechanical rides, tents, puppets, foosball, raffles, lotteries, games of chance, stands selling plastic toys, china, fruit, candy, Mexican snacks and traditional festive bread. Finally, during the days of the fair there are sporting and cultural events at different times.
