The Cathedral of San Cristóbal de las Casas was built in 1528 and was called the Cathedral of San Cristóbal Mártir. His first Bishop was the Dominican friar Bartolomé de las Casas. The original building underwent some transformations and was rebuilt in the 17th century. Its façade dates back to the 18th century and is in the Baroque style with profuse decoration based on plant motifs made of mortar, surrounding niches where sculptures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul can be seen, among others.
