The San Cristóbal de las Casas Leñateros Workshop is a cultural society, an alliance of Mayan and mestizo women and men, founded in 1975 by the Mexican poet Ambar Past. Among its many objectives are to document, exalt and disseminate Amerindian and popular cultural values: song, literature, plastic arts; to rescue ancient techniques in danger of disappearing, such as the extraction of dyes from wild herbs; and to generate decent and fairly paid jobs for women and men without studies, without careers.
