Tenam means fortification in the Nahuatl language and Puente was the name of the old hacienda that was located there, the Mayan Archaeological Zone of the classical period located 13 km from Comitán on a hill that was modified to create a series of terraces on which the buildings, plazas and ball courts are distributed. The construction technique that uses perfectly assembled limestone stones and placed without mortar or lime stands out.

Municipality

Comitán de Domínguez is a municipality located in the Mexican state of Chiapas, Comitlán which means place of potters, a word that was Hispanicized as Comitán, today it is a thriving municipality characterized by its variety of architectural styles ranging from neoclassical to neo-Gothic and art nouveau and even Mudejar. It has several tourist attractions for visitors such as the Historic Center of Comitán, the gardens and streets, the Uninajab Spa, the Church of Santo Domingo, the Archaeological Zone of Tenam Puente and more.
