The Benito Juárez Park in Comitán de Domínguez at the beginning of the 20th century, in front of the main temple, the current Benito Juárez Park was a cobbled plaza that served as a market. It has a beautiful two-story kiosk with railings and topped with a flying eagle. At the corners of the park, bust statues were placed, with beautiful monuments with steps, of General Pantaleón Domínguez, Lic. Benito Juárez and the priest Miguel Hidalgo. Later, the statue of Dr. Belisario Domínguez was placed, where the anniversary funeral ceremony was held every October 7.
Comitán de Domínguez is a municipality located in the Mexican state of Chiapas, Comitlán which means place of potters, a word that was Hispanicized as Comitán, today it is a thriving municipality characterized by its variety of architectural styles ranging from neoclassical to neo-Gothic and art nouveau and even Mudejar. In Comitán de Domínguez the most important celebrations are the Feast of San Sebastián on January 20, the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria on February 2, the Feast of San Caralampio from February 11 to 20, the Feast of Santo Domingo and the trade fair, and the Feast of the Virgin of the Rosary on October 7.
