Archaeological zone located in the heart of the Lacandon Jungle, whose peak occurred during the government of Jaguar-Knotted Eye who ascended to the throne of Bonampak in 743 AD. The portrait of its last ruler Chaan Muan II, whose mandate began in 776 AD, was captured in the stelae, lintels and mural paintings that are still preserved. The murals were never finished and after painting them, the site was abandoned for reasons still unknown. Its discovery in 1946, one of the great stories of archaeological exploration in Chiapas.
The municipality of Ocosingo is one of the municipalities in which the state of Chiapas is represented, it is located in the east of the state and includes most of the Lacandon Jungle, its name comes from the Nahuatl word meaning Place of the Black Lord, it has various tourist places such as the Yaxchilán Archaeological Zone, the Toniná Archaeological Zone and that of Bonampak, as well as natural places such as La Laguna Miramar for eco-tourist recreation.
In Ocosingo the most important celebrations are the Fiesta de La Candelaria as well as the Trade Fair and the patron saint's festival which is celebrated from August 13 to 15.
