The Miramar Lagoon in Ocosingo, located in the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, is home to this wonderful natural body of water, the largest in Chiapas and perhaps the most beautiful. Its shades range from green to cobalt blue, covering an area of more than 2,000 hectares. Fortunately, thanks to an agreement between nearby towns, it is still free of buildings on its banks, so it is in a virgin state.
The municipality of Ocosingo is one of the municipalities in which the state of Chiapas is represented, it is located in the east of the state and includes most of the Lacandon Jungle, its name comes from the Nahuatl word meaning Place of the Black Lord, it has various tourist places such as the Yaxchilán Archaeological Zone, the Toniná Archaeological Zone and that of Bonampak, as well as natural places such as La Laguna Miramar for eco-tourist recreation.
In Ocosingo the most important celebrations are the Fiesta de La Candelaria as well as the Trade Fair and the patron saint's festival which is celebrated from August 13 to 15.
