The Metzabok Lagoon, which in Lacandon Maya means God of Thunder, is located between the mountains of the east of the state of Chiapas, in the Lacandon Jungle in the municipality of Ocosingo. It is a natural wonder. It was included in 2012 in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves for having exuberant ecosystems. In 1998, it was declared a natural area for the protection of flora and fauna to contribute to the use and conservation of the natural resources of the area.

Municipality

The municipality of Ocosingo is one of the municipalities in which the state of Chiapas is represented, it is located in the east of the state and includes most of the Lacandon Jungle, its name comes from the Nahuatl word meaning Place of the Black Lord, it has various tourist places such as the Yaxchilán Archaeological Zone, the Toniná Archaeological Zone and that of Bonampak, as well as natural places such as La Laguna Miramar for eco-tourist recreation.

Festivities

In Ocosingo the most important celebrations are the Fiesta de La Candelaria as well as the Trade Fair and the patron saint's festival which is celebrated from August 13 to 15.
