It is a sacred space consisting of an artificial mountain with seven platforms, built on a limestone hill that dominates an extensive and elongated valley. Toniná lived its peak between the end of the 6th century and the beginning of the 10th century AD, and was a military power as evidenced by the abundant representations of prisoners in stucco and stone.
