The Toniná Site Museum in Ocosingo was inaugurated in July 2000. It is located in the archaeological zone of the same name, in the Ocosingo Valley, a transition zone between the Chiapas jungle and the forest. It provides a historical overview of Mayan culture according to its origin myths, compiled in the sacred book of Popol Vuh, with the intention of leaving a record of the historical and mythological conception expressed in the material remains of the Mayans settled in this pre-Hispanic city.

Municipality

The municipality of Ocosingo is one of the municipalities in which the state of Chiapas is represented, it is located in the east of the state and includes most of the Lacandon Jungle, its name comes from the Nahuatl word meaning Place of the Black Lord, it has various tourist places such as the Yaxchilán Archaeological Zone, the Toniná Archaeological Zone and that of Bonampak, as well as natural places such as La Laguna Miramar for eco-tourist recreation.

Festivities

In Ocosingo the most important celebrations are the Fiesta de La Candelaria as well as the Trade Fair and the patron saint's festival which is celebrated from August 13 to 15.
