The Santo Domingo Tourist Center in Tapachula is a beautiful town with a temperate climate that serves as a place of rest and refuge for the inhabitants of the hot areas of Soconusco, a historic site that in pre-Hispanic times was a tributary of the Aztecs; it is still possible to see some vestiges of 19th century buildings such as the large house of this town in Santo Domingo.
Tapachula is one of the municipalities of the state of Chiapas, between the Sierra Madre and the Pacific Coastal Plain. Tapachula, in the Nahuatl language, means Tapacholla. Among the tourist attractions of this municipality are its beaches such as Playa Linda and Laguna Pozuelo, tourist centers, parks, traditional festivals and its coffee route.
In Tapachula, the following festivals are celebrated: San Benito, the Costa Chiapas International Expo, the San Agustín festival, the Jesús de la Buena Esperanza festival, the San Miguel festival, the San Sebastián festival, the San Caralampio festival and the Virgen de Guadalupe festival. In the town of Carrillo Puerto, a festival is held from January 7 to 15.
